With every political system comes propaganda: a flow of biased or misleading information used to promote a specific perspective or political cause. What many of us call basic education might be called propaganda by our political opponents, and vice versa. And when we live in a world marked by war, pandemics and geopolitical change, political leaders may be more likely than ever to use even the facts to further their interests, defeat their opponents and stay in power. Many of us are aware of the propaganda on the other side, but how do we process the propaganda coming from our leaders? What are the costs of misinformation during wartime? Is it okay to ignore propaganda if it helps people in need? And how can we figure out what information will help us see the world more clearly, and what information will make us more biased?
